For nearly a month now, we finally have five beautiful cows on our farm. Thanks be to God! The young bull (Pablo) comes from Mpwapwa (about a hundred kilometers away) and is a crossbreed of Indian and European dairy cattle breeds, as well as indigenous zebus. Unfortunately, they only had young bulls available there, so we had to look for the cows elsewhere. Finally, in the north, we found a suitable breed: the female cows are pure Sahiwal cows, a dairy breed from India. We got them laboriously and painstakingly from northern Tanzania (among other things, they had to be driven through a national park, taking a long detour around an elephant herd ;-), then the truck had to cross a flooded road, etc.). Sahiwal cattle are known for being extremely heat and drought resistant and can still produce milk (under good conditions up to 15 liters of milk per day).
After a few days of shyness, they have now settled in well with us and enjoy the abundant food available on our farm. And all the livestock herders who visit us on the farm are completely amazed by these beautiful animals. Pablo, Alma, Berta, Lotte, and Nala are very affectionate and calm animals, and we are very happy to have them. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped us get these magnificent animals!
