Volunteers

We are Sharon, Daniel, Vanessa, and Jessica. We arrived at Care of Creation at the end of January and are here as short term volunteers for 3 months. Sharon, Daniel, and Vanessa are from Austria and Jessica is from the US.
Sharon is originally from the US, but moved to Austria 3 years ago, where she lives at an intentional Christian community in Unternalb. She is a certified Soil Food Web Lab Technician and analyzes amounts of biology in soil samples. She otherwise works at Gutes vom Gutshof, a market garden that experiments with different methods of regenerative farming.
Daniel has already been at Care of Creation four times, so you may know him. He is a trained gardener and has also acquired different practical skills. When not busy with plants he helps around the farm with plumbing, electricity, and general maintenance. Also part of his skill set is knowing swahili, which has been helpful to us volunteers that are first timers in Tanzania.
Vanessa grew up in Germany and moved to Innsbruck, Austria, 4 years ago where she owns a coffee shop and studies Non-Profit, Social, and Health Management. She’s in her last semester and is here for her internship. She also plans to write her final thesis on the impact and management strategies of COC, Tanzania.
Jessica is from Pennsylvania and works part time as a cook and otherwise as a Physical Therapist Assistant in an outpatient clinic. Here at COC she’s helped with setting up and cooking in the new cafe, as well as working in the daycare and sometimes with the camels and sheep.
Also part of our group is Steffi, who has been here since last October. She is a kindergarten teacher from Scharten, a town in Upper Austria. She’s spent her time here teaching in the daycare as well as setting up and organizing the new kindergarten classroom.
We have enjoyed our time here so far; it’s been busy, full, inspirational, fun, as well as sometimes challenging. It’s been exciting to see where each of us have found our place and way to contribute to COC. We’ve also appreciated working with and getting to know the people of Tanzania and we’re excited for the last few weeks!
