Don Camillo

After the tragic death of Emil, our camel bull, Camilla was very stressed. Camels are herd animals and should not be kept alone. So we set out on a search – first for money to be able to buy a new bull. Thanks to a wonderful and generous donation, that became possible. A heartfelt thank you for that!

After that, Alice, Tobias, and Loponu traveled north to Arusha to look for a new bull. After a few days of searching, we found a super beautiful, very light-colored bull. The owner, a Somali, was very hesitant to part with him. First, we had to prove to him in a culturally appropriate way (lots of drinking tea and talking, visiting the herd, more talking, etc... ;-) ) that we would take good care of the bull.

Then the search continued – for a truck, transport permits, etc., and finally we were able to bring our bull, whom we call "Don Camillo," to our farm.

Once we arrived, the question arose: how do we get our frightened and tired bull off the truck bed and into the stable? Tobias had the saving idea: he simply brought Camilla to the truck. When Don Camillo saw the other camel, he willingly came down off the truck, sniffed her and let himself be sniffed, and then followed her very meekly into the stable.

We are very happy with our new bull. And Camilla surely even more so!
