Coconut Palms

Kokosnuss Baumschule-01.jpeg

Since a few months, we are trying to grow Coconut Palms in our tree nursery. Many of them have already started to grow. At first, put the coconut on the ground; but the side which is the most even should face down. That's how it will get planted later. In order to make it really grow then, cut the coconut fibers diagonally on the peaked end of the coconut, so that the nut is still closed and flat side is on the ground. Then, dig a small hole in the ground and put some compost in it. When the hole is finished, put the slightly chopped Coconut into the hole for a test. Because the young roots shouldn't touch the compost, put some soil on top of the compost before the coconut comes into the hole. Put in enough soil, so that 1/3 of it are in the hole. If necessary, make the hole deeper. Now put the coconut into the hole, cover it with the soil and put grass mulch on it for sun protection. Last but not least water it and pray that the tree may grow well. In our tree nursery the first one started to grow after 2 months, but all the others sprouted after 5 months. In another area the time may be different.
